A good trade leaves both collectors happy with the cards they receive. Preparation involves identifying the exact copies as well as understanding what each person wants.
Prepare a dedicated binder
Separate available cards from those you want to keep. Organise them clearly and list your priorities. This avoids accidentally negotiating over a copy you do not wish to trade.
Compare equivalent copies
Check set, language, finish and condition together. If consulting prices, use equivalent references and recent information. Examine edges, corners and surfaces without pulling cards roughly from their protection.
Finish without rushing
Confirm all cards included before putting them away. Either person should feel comfortable declining. Record important trades in your inventory and protect new acquisitions immediately.
