A useful collection photograph should show the actual copy. The goal is not artificial perfection but helping someone understand its characteristics.
Use clear lighting
Choose diffuse light and a neutral background. Photograph the complete front and back, then add close-ups of corners or marks when needed. Avoid reflections that conceal the surface.
Keep identifying details
Do not crop away the collector number or edges. An angled image complements the front view for shiny cards. If the card remains inside a protector, say so: some visible marks may belong to the sleeve rather than the card.
Represent the copy honestly
Cropping and modest exposure adjustments can improve readability, but do not remove defects. For a graded card, include the label and holder too. After the session, return the card to suitable protection rather than leaving it exposed on the table.
