Choose an achievable goal
A collection centred on Bilbo, Dwarves or landscapes can be rewarding without including every finish. Record the collector number, language and treatment of each wanted card. The same artwork may appear under different references, so a card name alone does not identify the exact version to order.

Play Boosters preserve the surprise of discovery. Singles make more sense for completing a precise checklist. Sort new cards into keep, play and trade piles, then protect them before storage. Before buying another box in the hope of finding one missing card, compare the available alternatives.
One detail to check
HOB and HOC identify different groups of cards. Before adding a card to a tournament deck, verify its legality in your chosen format rather than assuming that all cards associated with the set are interchangeable.
