A Pokémon’s name is rarely enough to identify a card. Collector number, set and language provide a much more precise reference.
Read the small print
Find the printed number and the set symbol or code. Record the whole number, including the part after the slash. Add language and finish to your search.
Compare the artwork
Two cards featuring the same Pokémon may have different illustrations or belong to different sets. Compare the listing’s reference with the exact card you want. Artwork alone can be misleading when several treatments share an illustration.
Keep a reliable checklist
Use a separate inventory entry for each version. For graded cards, add the grading company and grade. These details simplify trades and prevent you from marking a collection slot complete with a variant you did not intend to buy. The official Pokémon database is a useful starting point for the references it covers.
