A sideboard is not simply a pile of interesting cards left outside a deck. In formats that allow one, it adapts your strategy to particular opponents while following event rules.
Write down the cuts too
For every sideboard card, record when you want it and what comes out. A strong answer can weaken your own plan if you remove too many threats or mana sources.
Avoid overly narrow answers
Focus on strategies you actually encounter. Do not use every slot to answer one hypothetical opponent. Flexible answers may look less dramatic but remain useful in more games.
Practise after sideboarding
Play post-sideboard games as well as opening games. Check that the curve and card count still make sense. Store the sideboard separately, using matching sleeves as appropriate to your organisation and event requirements. Before a tournament, review the permitted sideboard size for that specific format rather than assuming every Magic format works the same way.
