Open mana will mean more than a possible combat trick at Magic Presents: All Leylines’ Eve. The programme runs from 30 October to 5 November 2026: every player starts each game with Leyline of Anticipation on the battlefield. Your creature, enchantment or sorcery can suddenly become a response. Here is how to prepare without mistaking extra flexibility for permission to ignore the rest of the rules.
The dates and promotional card are confirmed in Wizards’ event announcement. Check the actual session with the participating organiser; this guide is not an announcement of a MoxCards event.
What you draft, and what starts outside your deck
The organiser selects the booster mix. The WPN event instructions suggest Chaos Draft or Pick-Two Draft, without requiring a particular set assortment. Do not buy a specific box on the assumption that it is the required event product.
Build a deck of at least 40 cards from your draft pool and basic lands. The event’s Leyline promo is not part of that minimum: 39 cards plus the promo is not a legal 40-card deck. For this special event, the promo starts on the battlefield; you do not need to find it in your opening hand. Participants keep the promo afterwards, subject to the programme’s available supply.
If the organiser chooses Pick-Two Draft, you take two cards per pick. Ask which procedure the table is using before opening anything.
Flash changes spell timing, not every action
The promo lets you cast spells as though they had flash. In practical terms, that means casting them when you have priority, including during an opponent’s turn. It does not let you interrupt the resolution of another spell.
- Costs still matter. You must pay the spell’s total cost. Leaving mana open is useful only if it can pay for your possible plays.
- Lands stay on their usual schedule. Playing a land is not casting a spell; Leyline does not let you play one during an opponent’s turn.
- Abilities are not spells. A loyalty ability or an ability limited to sorcery timing keeps its normal timing restrictions.
- Flash is not haste. A newly arrived creature still follows the usual restrictions on attacking and activating abilities with a tap or untap symbol.
Keep track of the Leyline itself, too. Its permission comes from the enchantment, not an emblem: if it leaves the battlefield, that permission ends unless another effect provides it.
These distinctions follow the current Comprehensive Rules, checked in the version effective 25 September 2026: rules 113.6, 117, 302.6, 305.1, 601.2h, 602.5d, 606.3, 611.3b and 702.8a.
Three decisions to practise before the first round
The following are our preparation suggestions, not a tested pick order for an unknown booster mix.
1. Keep two useful options available
Imagine holding a creature and a removal spell with enough mana to cast either. Passing can let you answer a threat first, or deploy the creature if no answer is needed. Before passing, name both options to yourself and check their colours. A hand full of expensive cards still leaves you with few choices.
2. Think about the next combat, not just the next end step
A creature cast after attackers are declared can become a surprise blocker if it resolves before blockers are declared and can otherwise block. Waiting until after blockers are declared is too late to add it to that declaration. Conversely, casting a creature during an opponent’s end step can prepare your next turn. Neither sequence is automatically best: compare the information gained with the damage or board position you risk.
3. Draft cards that work without a narrow combo
With boosters drawn from different sets, a synergy piece may never find its partner. We would begin by comparing reliable creatures, useful interaction and manageable colour requirements, then pursue a synergy when the pool supports it. Read unfamiliar cards before assuming a familiar archetype exists. The opponent has the same timing flexibility, so do not treat the creatures already on the battlefield as the whole story of the coming combat.
A short checklist before registering
- Confirm the local date, start time, entry price and places available.
- Ask whether the table uses ordinary picks or Pick-Two, and whether the booster mix is announced or kept as a surprise.
- Check basic-land provision and bring suitable sleeves, tokens and a life counter.
- Ask about remaining promo supply rather than assuming a card is guaranteed.
Find participating locations through the official Wizards event locator, then confirm details directly with the organiser. There is no need to choose a premium sealed product before you know what the session actually provides.
